- Organization and Responsibilities
- The Mental Health Association of Central Alabama (Mental Health Association) is a program of the Crisis Center, which is 501(c)3 non-profit agency in Birmingham, Alabama. The Mental Health Association (as a program of the Crisis Center) is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who represent the community at-large. Six of the 24 members have training and experience in the mental health field.
- The Mental Health Association's Mission
It is the mission of the Mental Health Association to assist consumers who have a diagnosis of a serious mental illness with improving their quality of life and help to achieve their desired mental and behavioral health outcomes. We do this through a rehabilitative day program offered 5 days a week to qualifying individuals who desire to get more out of their recovery. Each consumer participates in an individualized rehabilitative program in accordance with his or her personal needs, goals, and level of ability. Consumer satisfaction is a primary indicator of quality services.
A secondary mission of the Mental Health Association is to advocate for improved mental health services for all residents of Jefferson, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, and Shelby Counties. As a part of this, we also work to provide education, consultation, information and referral, and prevention services to the community.
The Mental Health Association, also known as Piper Place, has three locations.
Our main location is at the old McCoy United Methodist Church in Birmingham. Additional locations include Piper Place West in downtown Bessemer, Alabama and Piper Place Blount in downtown Oneonta, Alabama.
